Sun rays peeked out through Billie's curtains casting a warm yellow glow on his bed. It was well over noon and Billie's room was filled with sunlight beckoning him to wake up. “Billie! Wake up! You should have been up by now!” Billie mum yelled charging into his room like a raging bull. Billie slowly stirred back to life. He rubbed his eyes and sat up. “It's only twelve-thirty! Why did you wake me up so early?” Billie said belligerently. “Early? You were supposed to wake up at seven and do your homework! Go do your homework now! I have to run an errand! Bye.” Billie's mum shouted as she stormed out of the room, slamming the door so hard that Billie could have sworn he heard parts of it chip off. Billie begrudgingly got to his feet. His mother had jolted him awake and he couldn't go back to his dream world.

Billie was an eleven year old and could easily be mistaken for a huge bowling ball. He was so round that he could practically roll instead of walk. Billie always ate a ton of junk food, never studied and played video games half the day. To no one's surprise, he had to wear a pair of thick tortoise shell lenses to help him see clearly. Billie waddled down the corridor to the living room kitchen. He stared at the array of snacks, his mouth watering. Billie jumped as high as he could - which was five centimetres and grabbed a jumbo packet of chips that most people would take hours to finish. But not Billie. He could eat one colossal packet in ten minutes! He then strutted to the television and sat down on the sofa, which created noisily. Completely disregarding his mother's instructions to do his homework, Billie grabbed his phone and started to watch and play: Angry Birds while munching on his chips. Ding ding dong! Came Billie's notification. He immediately went to check it. It was from his annoying Science teacher. “Your test results are horrible! Two out of fifty! If you don't pull your socks up and do better you're doomed.” Billie read aloud. “Two out of fifty? Is it that bad? Does mum know?” Billie nervously chewed his nails, to calm down.

Billie stuffed more crisps in his mouth. That was how Billie's mum found him. Sprawled on the sofa of potato chips all over his mouth, playing video games. “Billie! You failed your test!” She yelled in an earsplitting voice, her face contorted with rage. She ran to the kitchen, grabbed all the snacks and chucked them into the bin! Billie sat there, his mouth hanging open in horror. Billie's mum shoved some money in his hands. “Go buy some vegetables! That's all you're eating forever!” She screamed at the top of her lungs as she nudged Billie out. Billie waddled out to the supermarket grumbling as he went. “So what if my marks aren't good! Why do I have to eat vegetables?” he said. Then heard something. A person in a dazzling outfit was standing on the stage and saying something about healthy eating. “Are you one of those who eat junk every day? Quit now & be happy forever!” He yelled. Billie stood there and listened as the man droned on and on about healthy eating and the dangers of not eating healthy. While standing there and listening something stirred inside of Billie. He was going to eat healthy and study hard! He felt inspired by the man's words. Billie bought a bag of vegetables and hurried home.

“Mum! From now on, I'm going to eat healthily, exercise and study hard. I promise, I'll do whatever you say! Really.” Billie announced as he barged in. His mum was staring at him, her face filled with bewilderment. Billie explained what had happened. His mother was delighted.

From then on, every single day Billie ate healthily, exercised and studied. He hardly ever touched his phone anymore. His mother was absolutely thrilled by his change in heart. When Billie received his End-Of-Year examination results he jumped up in joy. He was jubilant. Billie had passed every single one of his exams with flying colours. Billie was also a much healthier person now. He was considerably thinner and much more stronger. Billie and his mother celebrated his hard work results by going to Billie's favourite restaurant.

That experience was an invaluable one for Billie. He had learnt the true meaning of hard work and its results were splendid. Billie was grateful to his mother and that man on the stage for inspiring him to change and make a difference.
